Papers, 1940-1986, documenting the scientific career and field work of the British physiologist L.G.C.E. Pugh. The collection contains administrative and organizational reports, correspondence, manuscripts and reprints of scientific reports, research and expedition notes, and photographs and slides. The bulk of the collection is comprised of Pugh's research, including his notes and published articles. But there is also substantial material pertaining to his participation in the 1955-58 Trans-Antartic Expedition and three important Himalayan expeditions, most notably the 1953 expedition leading to the first summit ascent of Mt. Everest.
